June 25, 1926 - February 5, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Omi Edla passed away on February 5, 2020. She is predeceased by her husband, Chris Schmidt. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Juergen), her son Tom (Gail), grandchildren Kurtis (Jasmine), Zachary, and Taylor (Kirsten), great-grandchildren Austin, Daylen, Claira, Gabriel, Jackson, Logan and Nathan.
Edla was born in Konstanz, Germany in 1926, moved to the Fraser Valley in 1953 and was a long time resident of Chilliwack. Edla was an avid hiker, counting Mt Cheam (several times) and the West Coast Trial (twice) among her many walks. Edla, with her friend Joan Giffin, started a natural foods store in Sardis before such things were cool. Edla also loved gardening and flower arranging.
In recent years she was a resident of the Birchwood and we would like to thank all the staff for making her years there so pleasant. We would also like to thank the nurses in 3rd Floor North, Chilliwack General Hospital, for their care and attention.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please help us "buy a night" at Ronald McDonald House, a place for families to be near their sick children.
