November 30, 1929 - March 4, 2022
Douglas was born in Lethbridge, AB on November 30, 1929 and passed away peacefully in his sleep March 4, 2022 in Abbotsford, BC at the age of 92.
Doug met the love of his life, Georgina Griffiths, when he was 20 years old. Five years later, they were married in Lethbridge on November 27, 1954 and celebrated 67 years of marriage in 2021.
Doug worked for Sapina's grocery store and Bell's Welding in Lethbridge before joining the Canadian Armed Forces Royal Canadian Engineers in April 1956. He and his family lived
in Winnipeg, MB; Petawawa, ON and Chilliwack, BC, as well as Werl Germany. While living in Germany, the family travelled extensively throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.
After his retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces in June 1980, he worked as the property manager at the North Vancouver Outdoor School in Squamish for 6 years.
Doug and Georgina continued their love of travel, cruising to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Panama Canal and Alaska.
Doug was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a gentleman and a gentle man - fair, firm and friendly, a talented carpenter and builder, Barbershop singer, poet, maker of handmade cards and could fix anything with duct tape, glue and wood filler.
His family will miss his quiet strength, unconditional love, hugs, laugh and sense of humor.
Doug was predeceased by his wife Georgina on February 19, 2022.
He is survived by his daughters Sherry and Carol (Don); son Rob (Lani); grandchildren Brittany; Kier; Taylor; Annie; Kaitlyn and Michael; great-granddaughter Ruby.
Predeceased by his brother Alan.
