HILL; Donald Reginald. With great sadness we announce that Don passed away early Sunday morning, March 3, 2013 at Cascade Hospice with his wife Cherry by his side. Don was born in Brighton England on September 17, 1928 to Reginald and Lucille Hill. At the age of 18 he drafted into the British Army and served with the Royal Artillery in Germany. He also served in the Merchant Navy on the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. Don married sweetheart Cherry Rodgers in 1955. Don, Cherry and their infant son Peter went to Ontario in 1957, where Don joined the Canadian Armed Forces. After Shirley and Perry were born, Don was posted to Palestine as a U.N. Peace Keeper. Upon his return he was selected to go to Washington DC to work at the Pentagon. While there, Donna was born. In 1965 Don was posted to C.F.B. Chilliwack, with the 3 Field Squadron carpenter shop. Don and Cherry bought their first home, a hobby farm, where the family still lives. Don and Cherry traveled extensively and took many cruises. Don was an avid golfer and fisherman. Don was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Don said he had lived a life and a half, and it could not have been better. He was very proud of his family. He was also proud to be Canadian and loved his country. He leaves to mourn the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Cherry; his children: Peter (Carla) Hill, Shirley (Richard) Pye, Perry (Karen) Hill, Donna (Colin) Ego; grandchildren: Brandie and Brian Ego, Brittany and Chantelle Hill, Kevin (Natasha) and Nastya Pye; great-grandchildren: Kane and Mariah; brother, Bert (Gwen) Hill; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Don was predeceased by his parents Reginald and Lucille Hill and younger brother Francis Hill. Special thanks to Dr. Chow for his devoted care and to the nurses of Cascade Hospice for the wonderful care Dad received.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday March 18, 2013 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Avenue, Chilliwack, BC. Donations would be greatly appreciated in Don’s name to the Cascade Hospice.
