April 29, 1933 - January 23, 2020
With sadness we announce the passing of our dear 'Uncle' Denis on January 23rd, 2020. He was born April 29th, 1933 in Ponteix, Saskatchewan to Napoleon and Leopoldine (Decorte). Denis served 10 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a medical assistant. It was during his time as Section Commander in Resolute Bay, that the beauty of the arctic landscape inspired his lifelong love of hiking. He followed his passion while a manager at the Alpine Club of Canada in Canmore for over a decade, climbing many of the Rocky Mountains.
He was a wonderful storyteller with a great sense of humour, and with his vast knowledge of geography and natural history, he was an ideal guide for his many friends and family. He retired in Chilliwack where he continued to hike and pursued genealogy, becoming the de Montigny family historian.
Denis will be dearly missed by his brother George, sisters Georgette (Evans) and Yolande (Chambers) and his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday February 13th, at St. Mary's Church.
