Dr. David Donald Vogt passed away peacefully into the arms of his Creator and Lord on Sunday, August 14, 2011 after a long journey with Alzheimers. He was 86, just days away from his birthday. He is predeceased by 4 siblings Mary, Anne, Peter and Ben.
David was born in Borden, Saskatchewan on August 26, 1924. He attended Rosthern Academy for two years, then the University of Saskatchewan, and graduated from the University of Toronto with a dental degree in 1951. He practiced dentistry in Chilliwack, B.C. until his retirement 35 years later.
He will be remembered for his beautiful smile and his kind and gentle nature. He cared deeply for others and had a generous spirit. Those who knew or met David could readily see his love for the Lord and others through his committed involvement in community, business, church, and missions. Some of his volunteer work included the Gideons, the M2 program at the prison, MCC, and Stillwood Camp. He also enjoyed singing in a men’s choir group as well as the Barbershop Chorus. A member of Broadway M.B. Church, he led a faithful life of service to God. David is mourned by his wife Bertha, children Judy (Ted), Cathy (Alan), David (Carol), Rob, Don, and Tom, and his grandchildren, Carrie, David, Chris, Carson and Alex.
He will also be missed by his sisters Elsie and Susan, and his brother Henry, as well as his sisters-in-law Sue and Alice, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Menno Home for their care and support during his last weeks, and we especially appreciate his loving caretaker and friend, Cherrylin, who cared for him so tenderly during his last year at home. Family and friends will be celebrating his life on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:30 at Broadway M.B. Church at 46611 Maple Avenue in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons or charity of choice.
