Daniel

“Cougar” Daniel Leavens passed away on June 2, 2012 at Valley Haven Rest Home at age 90 years. He was born June 17, 1921 in Chilliwack, BC.

Dan is survived by three daughters, Barb (John) Presseau, Kathy (Bob) Parsons and Nancy (Alex) Howden; grandchildren, Doug, Devon, David, Emily, Reece and Jesse as well as great grandchildren, Zachary and Thaydn. He was predeceased by his parents Hiram and Emily Leavens and his sister, Pat Leavens.

“Cougar” Dan was an famous figure in the Chilliwack area. An avid outdoorsman, he was active in the Chilliwack Search and Rescue, enjoyed gardening, hiking, hunting and windsurfing. He was a Gold Medalist swimmer at the Senior Summer Games.

Dan lived at Cultus Lake for much of his life and could be seen skating at the Cultus Roller Rink in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He worked for BC Corrections at Ford Mountain and Thurston Camps up Chilliwack Lake Rd.

“Cougar” Dan was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He spent many an hour volunteering and many an evening dancing at Branch 280 Vedder Crossing.

A Funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave. Chilliwack

If any so desire, memorial donations may be directed to the Salvation Army, in Dan’s name.
