May 16, 1926 - February 29, 2024

The family of Centia Deveau are very sad to announce the passing of Centia at the age of 97. She was born in Holzheim, Germany in 1926 and passed on February 29, 2024 in Chilliwack, BC.

After surviving the war in Germany, Mom started her Canadian journey arriving at Pier 21 Halifax in 1951. She made her way to Niagara Falls where she met her lifelong friends Estelle, Toni and Rosaline, who introduced her to the love of her life Hayden. Mom and Dad celebrated 67 years together.

Mom or Oma, as she was also known to family and friends, spent her life in Ontario and BC providing for her family. "It was her most important job" she said. Her gardening skills were amazing, along with her canning, preserves and baking, there was never a lack of green beans, fresh buns or a pie or two, especially for Dad. She had a soft spot for dogs, Starsky and Smudge, cardinals, and her favourite hummingbirds, who were all also well fed.

Centia will be forever remembered by her family, sister Thea, niece Hilde, son Norman (Catharine), daughters Bev (Paul), Lynda (Evelyn), daughter in law Kristin. Grandchildren Krista, Cody (Cassandra), Craig (Julie) Marc (Ale), Scott (Ja Youn). Great grandchildren, Logan, Braeden, Jazmine, Hayden, Henry, Jensen and her special friend Corey.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hayden and son Albert in 2022.

Mom wanted to thank her Fraser Health caregivers for the past 8 years who helped her live an independent life. The family would like to thank The Cascades Hospice for their care and compassion.

There will be no formal service, a private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal charity of your choice.
