June 7, 2021
1936-2021 ~ It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our Mom, Beatrice on June 7th, 2021. After a battle with Alzheimer's that was fought with grace, laughter and love Mom joined her husband Francis and infant son Keith in Heaven. A joyous reunion we are sure.
Mom was born in Swan River, Manitoba and moved to BC with her family as a young girl. She told us many stories of growing up around Chilliwack, the great flood, the dreadful winters, family dances and the joys of growing up in the Fraser Valley.
She met Francis as a teenager and he remained the love of her life for the rest of her days. Together they raised five children in Surrey and after Dad retired they moved back to Chilliwack.
Mom was very active in her children's lives. She volunteered for so many things and when she didn't volunteer we volunteered her! Her baking was much in demand at cake walks, bake sales and trading at lunch. She was active in church life as well as the Girl Guides. She took a group of Guides along with 8 other adults and 2 Eagle Scouts over the Chilkoot Trail! Four days hiking up a mountain and down the other side while packing all your own gear. What an adventure!
Mom was quite the seamstress as well. Sewing, quilting, knitting and just plain crafting, she seemed to be creating something new all the time. She passed that love of creating onto us all.
Mom leaves behind five children Kathy (Roger), Carol, Michael, Dennis (Holly), Shelagh (Kevin) as well as 10 grandchildren (the light of her life) and 7 great grandchildren with another on the way. Her many nieces and nephews, Scotland relatives and friends will miss her as well.
Our thanks to Dr. Smit and his staff for their incredible support without which we would not have been able to keep mom at home with us. Her journey ended at home surrounded by love and thanks for all she had been to each of us.
Momma - your loss is felt so keenly but we are happy that you are now free to be. Mom always said "There's nothing a little laughter couldn't cure". May you rest in Joy and Peace Momma!
