February 7, 1932 - October 5, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Augustine (Gus) Hardy.
After advancing to the rank of Captain in the Canadian Army and serving all over the world including Egypt and Cambodia, Gus retired to Chilliwack.
During that time Gus married his first wife, Flora (nee Banks) in 1951. Together they raised five children: James (Sandra), Patrick, Christopher (Eileen), Alan, and Colleen. Sadly, Flora passed in 1990.
Gus found happiness again and married Wilma (nee Brown) in 1991. With a blended family of young adults, Gus became stepdad to Martin (Jacquelyne), Fiona, Jonathan (Rhonda), and Alexis (Michael).
As the years passed Gus enjoyed his days on the golf course, winter trips down south to Arizona and holidays to Scotland, where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing golf at St. Andrews. He enjoyed walks with his dog, and time spent with family, including his beloved grandchildren and eventually, great grandchildren.
Gus's wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren remember Gus, or Grandpa Gus as a generous, kind, witty, man whose feigned impatience taking the group portrait at Christmas each year made them chuckle. Friends remember the legendary parties for the Sons of Scotland group in his backyard as times of laughter and tall tales.
Golf partners remember him as a competent competitor who in between putts and drives was often on the verge of breaking into a smile or a bout of hearty laughter. The memories and influence of this proud, kind man will be treasured by his family forever.
A big thank you to Dr. Basson and his staff as well as the Drs and nurses on Unit 5 North (especially Nurse Brad) at CGH.
Due to Covid restrictions, the Celebration of Life will have limited capacity. Family members will keep in touch.
