Daniel and Henrik Sedin to be honoured by the university

Kwantlen Polytechnic University honoured two of B.C.’s favourite hockey players at its convocation ceremony in Surrey on Thursday. Daniel and Henrik Sedin are receiving their honorary degrees.

The Canucks were given their honorary degrees by KPU president and vice-chancellor Dr. Alan Davis, “for the citizenship, sportsmanship, civility, respect, and care they demonstrate both on and off the ice” here in B.C.

The twins were touched.

“We had a lot of fun this morning,” said Henrik. We’ve never been a part of anything like this.”

Post-convocation talk quickly turned to the Canucks’ on-ice performance.

“We want to focus on having a better season [next year] than the last year,” said Henrik, noting that they were not thinking past next year – the final year of their contract in Vancouver.

“It’s dangerous if you think too far ahead.”

The Sedins did have some advice for this year’s KPU graduates.

“It’s about treating other people how you want to be treated yourself,” said Daniel. “Just be nice.”

They demonstrated that with a quick selfie with The Runner reporter and KPU student Joseph Keller.
