More than a dozen roadways are slated to be repaved as part of City of Chilliwack’s asphalt rehab program.

The 2021 list is contained in the second-quarter reports, now posted online by City of Chilliwack to update council and the public on varied projects.

It includes plans for fresh asphalt in Ryder Lake, downtown, Chilliwack proper, Greendale, Rosedale, and Sardis.

They take a “worst first” approach to street repaving in the engineering department, basing it on road classifications.

Total budget for this year is $3.5 million.

“Some of this budget goes towards reinforcement of roads and railway crossings, and the rest goes towards our annual milling and paving program,” according to Kara Jefford, director of roads and transportation for the city.

Every five years a contractor conducts a survey to assign a “pavement quality index” rating for each road.

City officials awarded the base contract for the 2021 Asphalt Rehab program to BA Blacktop Ltd. in June 2021 for $3.2 million, according to the staff report.

This same paving contractor conducted the 2017 and 2020 asphalt rehab for Chilliwack, and city officials were satisfied with the work, according to the staff report.
