Photos of almost 20,000 Chilliwack homes will be shot by digital camera to update BC Assessment files starting next week.
It's a new "innovative" way to update the images used for property assessments.
Street fronts will be photographed from a clearly marked van starting Monday.
“As the Crown corporation responsible for accurately valuing all properties in B.C., we are always looking for innovative ways to provide more timely, accurate, equitable and fair assessments to all property owners,” said John Green, Acting Assessor for the Fraser Valley region. “Along with Mission, Chilliwack marks the final community in order to complete this innovative project for the entire Fraser Valley region.”
The initiative is slated to snap pics of about 19,600 single family homes across Chilliwack. The target start date is Monday, Nov. 4.
This mobile updating technique has already been successfully used throughout most of the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, the Okanagan, Kamloops and on Vancouver Island.
BC Assessment will not retain any personal information related to:
• Any images of people on the property;
• Visible signage on a residence (excluding street address), including business signs, signs with the names of the people living there and any other type of signage that may relate to the identity of a person including licence plates; and,
• The interior of a residence (e.g., images that show the inside of a home through a window or open doorway, or the interior of an enclosed vehicle shelter such as a garage).
