A Chilliwack homeowner awoke before dawn to the sounds of a man screaming outside her home.
Chilliwack RCMP confirmed a male suspect was arrested Oct. 5 at about 4 a.m. in the 44000-block of Sherry Drive.
The takedown in the street was by general duty officers with the help of police dog services, who arrived on-scene quickly.
A break-in had been reported from a nearby residence, and the homeowner called it in to the RCMP soon after hearing the sound of a garage door being opened.
"The dog was able to establish a track," said Cpl. Mike Rail of the UFVRD.
A male suspect on bike was located a short distance away, and was taken into police custody.
A Chilliwack resident posted online that she was the one awakened at 4 a.m. to the sound of someone screaming outside her window. She looked outside and saw someone on the ground with a police dog on top of them.
The resident realized the noise that woke her up was from the RCMP catching "a lowlife" in front of her home, and putting him under arrest.
"Great job to the RCMP," she wrote on social media. "Bonus, I heard there was a warrant out for him."
