Funding for a safety upgrade at the Ford Road railway crossing in Rosedale was announced by Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl Thursday.
The $75,280 will be used to install a “constant warning time device” which senses an approaching train, measures its speed and distance from the crossing, and then activates warning equipment.
“Canada continues to have one of the safest railway systems in the world,” Strahl said in a news release announcing the funding.
“The enhancements we are announcing today to local rail crossings across Canada will save lives,” he said.
Almost $14 million in new funding is being added this year to the federal Grade Crossing Improvement Program, which supports safety upgrades at railway crossings.
