UPDATE: The Mission RCMP are investigating whether impairment played a factor in the rollover crash on 7th Avenue on Dec. 13.
When first responders arrived on scene, they found the white SUV was perched on its side on top of a parked van.
Mission firefighters had to stabilized the vehicle to extricate the 38-year-old male driver, said Cpl. Jason Raaflaub, media officer with the Mission RCMP in an email.
He said the driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Incredibly, no one else was injured , and no significant damage was done to the retirement home,” Raafluab said. “Police are investigating whether impairment played a role in the crash.”
Witnesses state that the SUV was headed east when it started to swerve, crossed the oncoming lane, drove up onto the sidewalk and hit a tree in front of the retirement home before coming to a stop, Raaflaub said.
They are encouraging any witnesses, who did not speak with police at the scene, to contact the Mission RCMP.

A vehicle crashed over the curb, hit a tree and came to a stop on top of another vehicle in a roll-over crash on 7th Avenue in Mission.
The vehicle was headed east on 7th Avenue at approximately 10 a.m. when it swerved off the road, miraculously missed several parked vehicles, and knocked over a tree directly in front of the Cedarbrooke Chateau-Independent Retirement Living facility, according to one witness whose parked vehicle was nearly hit.
Apart from the vehicle rolled over, no other vehicles appeared to be severely damaged.
The street is currently blocked in both directions, and RCMP, Mission Fire Rescue Service and paramedics were on scene.
The driver was initially trapped in the vehicle, but was extricated soon after emergency crews arrived on scene, according to emergency scanners.
