Some residents and workers downtown Chilliwack noticed a large police presence on School Street behind Southgate Shopping Centre Wednesday afternoon.
A huge number of RCMP officers with rifles were on scene along with the dog services unit just before 4 p.m. for about 45 minutes for what turned out to be a false alarm.
Cpl. Lee Dyson of the Chilliwack RCMP said they received a report of shots fired, but after assessing the scene, searching dumpsters and eventually checking an apartment building they turned up nothing.
