Did you wake up to snow on your windshield, Chilliwack?
You’re not alone.
Chilliwack saw record low temperatures over two days this weekend, with mostly clear skies and strong winds, and even some wet flurries Monday morning. The flurries left little trace by sunrise andsteady rain is forecast for the week ahead, including Halloween night.
Looking back, Roger Pannett, Chilliwack’s volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada said this weekend saw two records set for cold.
The first was on Saturday, Oct. 24, which broke the record set in 1934 of 6.7 degrees Celsius for lowest maximum daytime high temperature. Saturday’s maximum was a chilly 6.5 C.
And then again on Sunday, Oct. 24, the maximum temperature was just 5.5 C. The previous lowest high temperature was 6.1 C in 1975.
But it’s been colder in October, Pannett points out. The coldest day on record in Chilliwack this month was Oct. 28, 1991 when it only reached 2.3 C.
