Chilliwack RCMP are looking for additional witnesses to a hit-and-run incident last month that killed a 37-year-old Chilliwack man.

Chilliwack RCMP investigators are looking for additional witnesses to a hit-and-run incident last month that killed a 37-year-old Chilliwack man.

"Even though an arrest has been made in this investigation, police are still looking for anyone who may have witness the incident or took photos," Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth said.

Darcy Garnot was struck by a vehicle as he walked along First Avenue near Nowell Street shortly before 8 p.m. He died later in hospital.

Sixty-year-old Gary Allain, who just moved here from Alberta, was arrested the next day and charged with criminal negligence causing death and failure to stop at an accident.

Police said the victim and suspect did not know each other.

However, witnesses said the two men were seen having an "altercation" outside a convenience story at the corner of First Avenue and Young Road minutes before the incident.

Anyone who saw the hit-and-run or has further information is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
