Police dog Fritz takes down bait car thief

The RCMP arrested two men in Chilliwack early last Friday morning after a bait car was stolen.

Fritz the police dog helped take down a car thief last Friday morning.

Two suspects picked the wrong car to steal when they took off in one of the Integrated Municipal Auto Crime Team’s (IMPACT) bait cars. The vehicle was moving north on Old Dyke Road when the car was deactivated.

The two suspects got out, and while one submitted peacefully to officers the other took off into the nearby forest.

Fritz tracked the suspect down and got kicked as he ‘made the arrest.’ But according to RCMP Cst. Tracy Wolbeck he gave as good as he got.

The suspect suffered a minor injury as a result of Fritz’s assistance,” she noted.

The Chilliwack RCMP works extensively with IMPACT, which assists detachments in deploying bait vehicles.

We are constantly bringing in different makes and models that we know thieves like to target,” said Cpl. Brock Rayworth of the Chilliwack Property Crime Section. “Property crime is an enormous priority to us right now and these arrests are significant.”

Twenty-four year old Chilliwack native Lough Plumridge has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Thirty-five year old Chilliwack native David McKay has been charged with possession of break-in tools and possession of stolen property.

Both men are known to police.

Police received a second bait car activation that same evening and are investigating.
