State-of-the-art mammography is coming to Chilliwack General Hospital.

A fundraising campaign has been launched by Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation for 2022 with a goal of $395,000 to pay for the new machine.

“Mammography is a very important screening tool for early breast cancer detection,” said Liz Harris, executive director of Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation.

On average 76 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day and 15 women will die.

The existing mammography unit, and the mobile screening clinic both currently serve CGH, but the hospital equipment in has reached its end of life and needs replacement.

“Having a new mammogram machine at CGH will reduce wait and travel times for those going to Abbotsford and earlier diagnosis will mean better outcomes for most patients,” said Harris.

The advanced new equipment will produce faster and more efficient scans with enhanced breast imaging and digital mammography.

“This health care advancement is another example of Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation’s commitment to the quality of health care in our community,” Harris added.

The foundation raises funds for equipment and programs endorsed by Fraser Health, serving the communities of Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Hope, Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs.

But all funds raised for equipment or programs in Chilliwack for example, ultimately remains in that community.
