What is your background/political experience?
I have studied history, philosophy and political science. While in college I was elected ombudsman twice and served both terms. I was also the first ombudsman to attend the Federation of Students gathering held in Ottawa and attended the opening of Parliament. I have worked a number of federal and provincial elections. My godfather was an MLA. I have also successfully established and run a number of businesses and organizations and have sat on the Board of Directors of the John Howard Society.
What are the most pressing issues currently facing the riding?
Pressing issues facing my riding are similar to those in many other places throughout B.C.: Shortage of affordable housing and child care; Education needing improvement; Lack of stable, well paying full-time jobs; A need to improve city and inter-city transportation; And a need to revitalize small business and tackle poverty and crime. Unique to Chilliwack are the threat of the Kinder Morgan pipeline, the negative health affects of the planned waste incinerator in Vancouver, and the need to protect our water. I want to see community involvement and increased community control in the way these issues are tackled.
If elected, what would be your main priority as MLA?
Since there are so many things, that need to be worked on, and I want to see the process started, I am not going to pick one particular item to be my main priority. But rather, all the issues concerning my riding and the province in general are priority. The only real priority I have to see them all started to be worked on immediately.
Why should people vote for you?
As seen with the debates and with our party ideals, I do not regurgitate the same old party rhetoric. I say things straight and truthful. The party was founded just under three months ago and has already gained massive momentum, coverage and support, and if we can achieve this in a few short months, imagine what I will be able to achieve as your representative. I have the experience, and I have the desire and the willingness to work with my constituents, instead of towing a party line. And, like you, I want honest change, transparency in government, and answers and results.
