Jingle Bell Lane rained out and cancelled

Unfortunately the heavy downpour most of Friday in Chilliwack has worsened site conditions at the park

Excessive rain in the Chilliwack area has forced the cancellation of Christmas in the City's Jingle Bell Lane event set for Saturday, Dec. 1 in Central Community Park.

Unfortunately the heavy downpour most of Friday has worsened site conditions at the park, with muddy terrain and saturated park grounds, said Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association officials.

Some of the static display participants also cancelled today, notifying the BIA they would not be installing a lighted display in Jingle Bell Lane as expected, citing safety reasons and poor conditions.

The local weather forecast is calling for 10 to 15 mm of rain for the next five days.

BIA officials told The Progress they regret having to cancel their Christmas in the City kickoff at the last moment, but felt there was no other option.

Attention of the organizers will now shift to drumming up excitement for the remaining Christmas in the City events, on Dec. 8 Road Hockey with the Chiefs, and the Dec . 15 Winter Carnival.
