Inmate accused of trying to flee Chilliwack courtroom released on bail

He was in custody.

He tried to bolt from custody.

He was released from custody.

He was wanted.

He was arrested.

Now he’s been released again.

This time Kristopher Thomas Bradley Vandenbrink likely won’t be moving anywhere too quickly as he appeared in a Chilliwack courtroom Friday with crutches, moving very slowly.

Vandenbrink faces two charges of assaulting a peace officer and one charge of escaping from lawful custody after witnesses saw him try to burst out of the prisoner’s box in courtroom 204 on April 8.

The 26-year-old was in court that day facing numerous charges connected to three files.

He has a history of identity theft and credit card fraud, but also a history of resisting arrest. Twice previously he has been charged with willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Shortly after he allegedly attempted to flee from custody on April 8, he was released on bail. He was later charged with the allegation from the courtroom incident, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He appeared in the May 3 edition of The Progress in the Crime Stoppers ad.

Some time over the last week, Vandenbrink was arrested again, and appeared in court on May 10 facing the new charges.

Crown consented to his release on bail.

He is due next in court May 21 for an appearance on the three previous files, and the new charges connected to the courtroom incident.
