Four schools in Chilliwack are being set aside for the new hybrid learning model.
McCammon and Unsworth are the sites for the elementary hybrid program, and Chilliwack Middle and Mt. Slesse Middle are being used for the middle school portion of the program. There is no secondary school hybrid option.
The district’s hybrid learning model will see students only attending school two days a week, with the rest of their schooling being done online with the help of an adult. The program is being designed as “robust” and is being recommended for students who excelled at working from home when schools were closed.

The district has been careful to point out though, that the hybrid program is not the same as what was delivered in June.
The announcement of the locations being used came on Aug. 18, as parents wait for more information about what regular in-class school will look like. Those who are enrolled in hybrid learning can now expect a call from their current school’s principal to discuss the next steps.
Hybrid classrooms will look different than usual classrooms. They will combine grades and have their own maximum numbers for those ‘in-school’ days. They will combine Kindergarten to Grade 2 to a maximum class size of 20, Grades 3-5 with a maximum class size of 24, and Grades 6-8 (middle school) with a maximum class size of 30.
The hybrid classrooms will be dedicated to the program, and the program will be continuing beyond the pandemic.
