Want to give your two-cents worth about the provincial budget to the B.C. government?

Want to give your two-cents worth about the provincial budget to the B.C. government?

You can do that in person next week as the government's standing committee on finance holds a public consultation hearing in Chillwack.

"This is a great opportunity for members of our community, whose taxes pay for everything from infrastructure projects to policing, to let the province know what their spending priorities are," Chilliwack MLA John Les said in a news release announcing the hearing.

"Listening to the public is an important part of fiscal accountability as we pursue our goal of delivering responsible provincial budgets," Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner said.

The hearing starts a 9 a.m. Oct. 12 in the Rosedale Room of the Coast Chilliwack Hotel.

The all-party committee chaired by Richmond Centre MLA Rob Howard will hold 15 meetings around the province before making budget recommendations to the finance ministry.

"We're especially looking for ways to protect vital services such as health and education, while working to defend and create jobs," Howard said.

Written submissions can be sent to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, Room 224, Parliament Buildings, Victoria. B.C. V8V 1X4 or emailed to financecommittee@leg.bc.ca
