A 39-year-old man and his father are in custody after a report of threats made to shoot someone in Yarrow early Thursday morning.

Police said witnesses told them the 39-year-old came to the Esso gas station on Yarrow Central Road shortly before 8 a.m. and told employees that "people were after him and that he was going to shoot someone."

"He appeared to be intoxicated, but the clerk noticed what they thought to be a shotgun sitting on top of the 1990 Honda Accord that he was driving," RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth said.

"The suspect also showed the employees some shotgun shells he had in his pocket," she said.

Chilliwack RCMP officers, an Emergency Response Team, Fraser Valley Traffic Services and Air One responded to the report.

Hollingsworth said the 39-year-old man and his father were arrested and taken to the RCMP detachment in Chilliwack for further questioning. She said one of the men is known to police.

"The police are currently investigating threats and weapons offences," she said, and the firearm and Honda Accord have been seized.
