The driver who caused a four-vehicle collision at Yale Road and Hodgins Avenue last week was behind the wheel of a stolen truck.
The owner of the red pickup truck had left the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running when it was stolen around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.
“That has been a trend we’re really seeing lately,” said Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk. “Do not leave your vehicle unattended and running with the keys in the ignition.”
A man and a woman hopped in the truck and took off. According to witnesses, the vehicle was being driven erratically as it headed north along Yale Road and turn west on Hodgins Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m.
It collided with two vehicles stopped in traffic, then hit a third vehicle further down Hodgins Avenue before coming to a stop.

The two people inside the stolen truck fled the scene on foot and were arrested nearby in the area of Chilliwack General Hospital, Vrolyk said.
No one was injured as a result of the collision.
The four vehicles – a black sedan, white SUV, red pickup truck and black hatchback – were quite spread out over about 30 metres of Hodgins Avenue, stretching west from Yale Road to west of the entrance of Southgate Shopping Centre.
Traffic on Hodgins Avenue was disrupted for about an hour and a half as crews investigated the scene and vehicles were towed away.
