Arson struck another vacant house in Chilliwack on Tuesday, March 29.
When crews from the Chilliwack Fire Department were called to the single-storey home in the 9500-block of Robson Street at 12:01 a.m., light smoke was venting from the eaves.
Firefighters extinguished “a few small set fires” within the home, said assistant fire chief Mike Bourdon.
“Chilliwack Fire Department would like to remind owners of vacant homes that they face an increased risk when it comes to property damage which includes vandalism, theft and or fire damage,” he added. “A fire within a vacant home also increases the risk to fire fighter safety.”
Homeowners are also reminded to communicate with their insurance provider if the home is vacant and visit their property on a regular basis to confirm all structures on site remain secured, Bourdon said.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
This fire was deliberately set and is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department.
