The Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley got underway early Thursday morning in Langley with the departure of 22 riders at 8 a.m. from the Best Western Plus Langley Inn on Glover Road.

Team leader Chris Rosenberger, an officer with the Canadian Border Services Agency, was optimistic.

"I think things are going pretty smoothly so far," Rosenberger said.

Weather conditions were good, with some early morning fog lifting before the riders took to the streets.

"We've got a lot of blue sky to look forward to," Rosenberger said.

The riders held a group huddle and hug before they left for the trip to Aldergrove.

They were scheduled to pass through White Rock on Friday, Abbotsford on Saturday, Hope on Sunday, Chilliwack on Monday and Mission on Tuesday.

They will then ride through Ladner, Tsawwassen, Surrey and North Delta on Wednesday, before returning to Abbotsford on Thursday and Friday.

Since the B.C. run started on Vancouver Island in 1998, Cops for Cancer has expanded into four tours which have raised over $25 million collectively to fund programs and research for children with cancer.
