It’s budget time. That means it’s time for Chilliwack residents to help city council determine priorities.

Every year finance staff at City of Chilliwack prepare a survey that allows citizens to rate municipal services based where they want to see spending emphasis.

“If you have ever wondered where your property tax dollars go, this tool is an excellent way to learn more, while simultaneously sharing your priorities for future spending,” said Mayor Ken Popove. “As a council, we want to hear from you and, with your participation, this tool can provide us with exceptional feedback on the wants and needs of Chilliwack residents.”

As the City of Chilliwack develops its 2022-2031 Financial Plan, members of the public are encouraged to participate in the budget process through the interactive ‘citizen budget tool,’ according to the Sept. 22 release.

Council has to balance the wants and needs of its citizenry with the reality of property taxes.

“Until October 22, residents can go online to let the city know their budget priorities, while gaining additional insight into service level impacts based on spending on various city services.

“This input helps council determine the right balance between property taxes and ensuring the long-term sustainability of city services.”

Residents can take the survey until Oct. 22:

• Online at chilliwackbudget2022.ethelo.net

• In person at City Hall (Get a hard copy from the front window at City Hall and return the completed survey in person or by mail to 8550 Young Road, Chilliwack, BC V3P 8A4, c/o Finance Department).

• Anyone with access needs or additional questions about the survey, contact the Finance Department directly at budget@chilliwack.com or 604-792-9311.
