The Chilliwack School District is inviting the public to learn about the 2017/18 school year budget and budgeting process

The school district is holding its public budget presentation soon, offering a chance for input, questions and clarity.

The budget gets underway each year in mid-March, when the Province announces its government funding. The budget committee is looking at the preliminary numbers on March 30, and the school board will review them at their next meeting, on April 11.

The following evening, the district's secretary treasurer, Gerry Slykhuis, will present the preliminary budget to the public at the Neighbourhood Learning Centre.

Last year's budget for the Chilliwack School District was about $145 million, covering off everything from salaries, to facilities improvement, to transportation costs.

The district says "this is an opportunity for members of the public to learn about the school district budget, ask questions, provide support, and submit ideas and suggestions."

All members of the public are invited to learn more about the 2017/2018 budget, and the budget process in general.

The budget will go through a series of readings throughout May and June before being submitted to the Ministry of Education on June 30.

The public budget presentation will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the NLC on Wednesday, April 12.
