Police are seeking public help locating a man who allegedly pushed a young woman to the ground and stole her bank card on New Year's eve.

The 18-year-old victim said she was walking west in the 45600-block Bernard Avenue when a tall man in his late 20s or early 30s pushed her to the ground, stole her bank card and was last seen running toward the McDonald's restaurant on Yale Road.

The victim said the man's voice sounded "rough and young" and he was wearing a black, hooded jacket and baggy pants at the time of the 8:20 p.m. assault.

"This was very frightening for this young woman, (but) thankfully she was not hurt," RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth said.

"We are hoping that someone may have information that could be helpful to identify the man responsible," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
