Mounties in Chilliwack are looking for help from the public to identify a suspect seen in a photograph taken by a bait car camera over a month ago.
The image was captured on Feb. 5 shortly after 3 a.m. when an individual triggered the surveillance camera and alarm of a police bait car parked in the area of Spadina Avenue.
General Duty officers immediately conducted thorough patrols of the area but a suspect was not located.
“Police park bait cars containing bait property in areas identified as high risk for auto crime,” said Cpl. Jay Schofield of the Chilliwack RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU).
“RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to identify the man in the photo,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail.
The suspect is wanted for alleged identity theft.
RCMP tips to prevent auto theft:
· Lock vehicle doors;
· Do not leave property in your vehicle;
· Avoid parking behind fences or hedges.
Anyone with information to identify the individual in the photograph is urged to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
