New chlorination equipment is being tested out on Marble Hill and Chilliwack Mountain this week.
It could affect up to 500 residents in the hillside areas served by the self-contained drinking water distribution systems, but it won't impact other areas of the city, said officials.
The testing comes on the heels of reconstructed water reservoirs and pump upgrades in those specific systems which came with new emergency chlorination equipment. That new equipment now has to be tested to ensure it works as intended.
A minimal amount of chlorine is being injected into both drinking water systems, which will then be traced by city staff as it travels through the system. Once it reaches the far ends of each system, the chlorine will be switched off and will dissipate through dilution.
The temporary chlorination process of the hillsides started on Monday, July 18 and should be wrapped up by Friday, July 22, according to city staff.
