Chilliwack food bank drive: 'resounding success'

Firefighters, search and rescue members and emergency social services go door-to-door for food bank

More than 20,000 food items and cash for the Salvation Army food bank were collected by volunteers with Chilliwack's emergency services Monday.

"The volunteers covered much of the city and the support of the community will make a significant impact on the local food bank reserves," Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Ullyot.

He said the "terrific partnership" between the Salvation Army and emergency services continues to grow, along with sponsorship by Safeway, Save-On-Foods and PriceSmart Foods.

Donations will continue to be accepted at Fire Hall # 1 located at 45950 Cheam Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
