Campaign to fill food bank shelves starts Monday

Chilliwack firefighters will be knocking on doors Monday to collect grocery donations for the local food bank.

Chilliwack firefighters will be knocking on doors Monday to collect grocery donations for the local food bank.

The door-knocking campaign starts at 6 p.m., but firefighters won't be able to get to every part of the city, so donations can be dropped off at Fire Hall #1 at 45950 Cheam Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Last year, more than 12,000 food items were collected by volunteers from the fire department, Emergency Social Services, St. John's Ambulance and Chilliwack Search and Rescue.

Fire Chief Rick Ryall thanked the community in advance for "helping those who are less fortunate in our community."

"We look forward to another successful food drive," he said.
