BREAKING: IHIT on scene of house downtown Chilliwack

Heavy police presence on a stretch of Wellington Avenue

The RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) arrived on the scene downtown Chilliwack just after 9 a.m. on Thursday at an apparent homicide in or near a house on Wellington Avenue.

A portion of Wellington was blocked off Thursday morning for a few hours by police.

Barricades were up up blocking the from Cook Street to Edward Street, and officers appear to be focused on a blue house in the centre of the block.

One neighbour told The Progress the house had been a “problem” for years, and another neighbour confirmed it was the house attended by RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) for an alleged domestic dispute a few weeks ago.

Police were both in front and in the alley behind the house on the south side of the street.

More details as they become available.
