A man with a long history in the courts is facing more charges after a stolen vehicle was recovered downtown this week.

Jesse Ace Gillanders, 38, of Chilliwack is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failure to comply with conditions of a probation order.

Gillanders has an extensive criminal background according to Court Services Online, mostly from Surrey.

A vehicle that was reported stolen on July 17 was spotted on July 24 travelling in the 9300-block of Main Street by a Chilliwack RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) officer.

CRU officers supported by the Chilliwack RCMP Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) quickly located the vehicle parked a block away and took a suspect into custody on Princess Avenue near the Chilliwack Courthouse.

Evidence linking the suspect to the stolen automobile was seized by police during the arrest.

Gillanders remains in custody next due in court July 31.

“RCMP officers are committed to solving and reducing crime in our community,” said Cpl. Mike Rail spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.
