UPDATE: Air ambulance called to serious motor vehicle crash in Chilliwack Tuesday

Vehicle being pulled from embankment by firefighters near Vedder Bridge before 11 a.m.

A serious motor vehicle crash on Vedder Mountain Road just east of the Vedder Bridge Tuesday snarled traffic as first responders took over the area, even calling in an air ambulance.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, emergency crews were called to the spot where there were reports of a vehicle over the embankment between the Vedder Bridge and the roundabout towards Cultus Lake.

According to reports at the time, the vehicle was winched using a fire truck before helping the occupant or occupants of the vehicle could be helped.

One person was seen on a stretcher being cared for by BC Ambulance Service paramedics just after 11 a.m., but there were reports of another individual who was more seriously injured.

The condition of the driver and any possible passengers was not made public by 5 p.m. Tuesday, but an air ambulance was called to the scene. An ambulance left the scene of the crash and arrived at the air ambulance landing zone on a field off Vedder Road near Petawawa Road before 11:30 a.m., but by 12:15 p.m. the air ambulance had not left.

Two witnesses at the scene, and one via social media who herself was at the scene, told The Chilliwack Progress that RCMP officers reported a male was killed in the incident, but it’s unclear the nature of the injuries that caused the fatality.
