A 50-year-old Chilliwack man is facing charges after colliding with a motorcycle Saturday in Mission that left an Abbotsford couple in serious condition.

The couple has now been transferred out of intensive care, but remain at the Royal Columbian Hospital.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated the Chilliwack man was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier when failed to stop at a stop sign on Johnson Road, and struck the motorcycle heading east on the Lougheed Highway.

“The driver of the motorcycle was pinned under the Cavalier and freed by nearby homeowners utilizing a large jack,” RCMP Const. Dave Lagerwerf said in a new release.

The Abbotsford couple, a 50-year-old man and his 48-year-old wife, was airlifted to hospital by an air ambulance.

Police said there is no indication alcohol was a factor in the accident, however, the Cavalier did not have insurance at the time of the collision. It was towed from the scene and is now being tested for its mechanical condition.

Anyone who witnessed the 3:50 p.m. crash and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call Const. Lagerwerf at the Fraser Valley Traffic Services office at 604-702-4039 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
