Friday marked the second snowiest April day on record for Chilliwack.

There were periods of wet snow, moderate at times, until about 1 p.m, interspersed with hail.

Total snowfall and hail precipitation was 14.7 centimetres with up to 3 centimetres of wet snow accumulating on the ground, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.

“So today, April 3, 2020, was the second most snowiest April day on record after the 15.0 cm snowfall on April 11, 1981,” Pannett wrote in his snowfall report.

The 30 year average April snowfall in Chilliwack is 0.9 cm.

Temperatures dipped to 1.2 C during the snow storm, 1.9 C below normal, but bounced back to 7.8 C in late afternoon sunshine.
