City of Chilliwack officials have issued a single $100 fine this year for non-compliance with watering restrictions.
So far city staff have fielded 136 complaints about violations of the restrictions as of Aug. 17.
“Staff followed up with education for each property to gain voluntary compliance,” said city spokesperson Liana Wiebe. “The city has issued one fine so far this year.”

Chilliwack implemented Stage 3 watering restrictions in July 2023 due to severe drought conditions.
The restrictions mean that lawn-watering days and times were cut in half to conserve water. Even numbered addresses are permitted to water on Wednesdays only now, and odd numbered addresses can water on Thursdays only, from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. only.
When a violation is reported to bylaw, the protocol is for city staff to investigate and follow up with the property owner.
“Staff provide information about current restrictions and work with property owners to gain voluntary compliance first. However, if violations continue, the city can issue a $100 fine for non-compliance.”
