Chilliwack’s longest serving school trustee announced Sunday she would indeed seek a seventh term.
Silvia Dyck has been on the school board for 19 years since being first elected in 1999 and she was re-elected in 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
Only incumbent Barry Neufeld has been around that long, although Neufeld did not run in the 2008 election.
“I am a wife and mother of four children all of whom were educated in Chilliwack and graduated from Sardis Secondary, and I seek your support for a seventh term as your school trustee,” Dyck said in a statement issued on Sept. 9.

As her children were growing up, Dyck spent time managing a family daycare, volunteering as a Sunday school teacher, she was a 4H leader, a youth group leader, a Scout group assistant, and she became active in the parent advisory council movement.
As a trustee she has served as board chair and vice-chair, and has served on various boards and committees including: Restorative Justice Board, BCSTA Education Committee, and she was elected for two terms on the BC Public School Employer’s Association Board.
”I would really like to be a part of the exciting opportunities ahead for the Chilliwack School District, the Tyson school project, implementing the grade configuration, ensuring the CHANCE students continue to be successful, supporting the early intervention reading by grade four project to mention a few.
“It has been an honour to serve my community and assist in the education of all children. With your support, I hope to continue for another term.
“Every child matters and deserves the very best education we can provide.”
Dyck is the final incumbent trustee to announce intentions for the 2018 municipal election.
Incumbents Neufeld, Dan Coulter and Heather Maahs will also seek re-election, while Paul McManus, Walt Krahn and Bob Patterson will not.
The election is Oct. 20.
