On Oct. 20, local voters will go to the polls to choose a new mayor, city council and school board.
Voters in certain specific areas – for example: Columbia Valley, Chilliwack River Valley, Popkum – will also elect directors for the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) board. And residents and leaseholders in Cultus Lake Park will elect a Cultus Lake Park Board.
Here are some links to important information possible candidates need to know, followed by some key dates leading up to the 2018 general local elections on Oct. 20.
Anyone who is a Canadian citizen, 18 or older on voting day, a resident of B.C. for at least six months leading up to voting day, and not otherwise disqualified by the Local Government Act, can run for local office.
