Here in Chilliwack, Adult & Teen Challenge BC owns the Good Taco franchise at #111 - 5525 Vedder Rd as part of its Work Experience Program. (at Garrison Marketplace just past Keith Wilson on the way to Cultus). Safe work experience is vital to the restoration of the men, many of whom have lost everything to addiction – marriages, children, education, careers and their dreams.
While also giving a portion of all sales to impoverished children at Casa de Luz Children’s Centre in Mexico, 100 per cent of all profit from Good Taco Sardis/Chilliwack goes directly to the Adult & Teen Challenge Society of BC’s Chilliwack Men’s Centre located in Yarrow, which specializes in addiction recovery and restoration.
Good Taco manager, Loralee Harbut says the influence of this program is growing with graduates paying their generosity forward for other men in need.
“This program has come full circle in a beautiful way. We currently have three men who have graduated from the program, and now as part of their work, are supervising at Good Taco and giving back to an initiative that has helped them get their footing in life. They are discovering and developing their leadership abilities.”
Josh Minard - a former graduate of the Work Experience Program - turned supervisor at Good Taco, says this role has made a long-lasting impact on his life.
“Good Taco isn’t simply a restaurant that we get the opportunity to work at, it is a transformative experience for everyone involved. This role has shaped my leadership abilities in ways I never thought possible.”
As Chilliwack’s Good Taco heads into its second full year of serving delicious food and infectious smiles, Harbut wants new and returning customers to know that their business means more than a meal served.
