Volunteers are being sought to help Chilliwack seniors prepare their 2023 tax returns.

The “urgent” call for volunteers went out this week from the Chilliwack and District Seniors Resources Society, says program co-ordinator Cari Moore.

“We found we are really short of income-tax return preparers for this year,” said Moore.

Volunteers are being sought to assist people with income tax returns from March 11 to April 26. They will be using a simple program, that’s easy to learn.

They are seeking at least two individuals to volunteer at their Evergreen Hall location, and one for the Cottonwood Centre, as well as volunteers to help with intake when people arrive at either station.

They also complete tax returns in a number of seniors’ residences.

Last year they filled out income tax returns for about 1,000 seniors during the tax season window.

It’s a free service the society has been offering local seniors for years, and it follows national standards, with training for volunteers provided by the Canadian Volunteer Income Tax Program.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer to help fill out tax returns is asked to please call Cari at 604-793-9979.
