UPDATE: Power outage affecting 5,500 Chilliwack customers resolved

Cause was due to ‘equipment contact’ and substation failure, according to BC Hydro

A large power outage occurred in Chilliwack on Thursday morning (March 21).

A large power outage Thursday morning (March 21) in Chilliwack impacted more than 5,500 BC Hydro customers.

According to the BC Hydro website, the outage occurred at 9:47 a.m. The outage was divided into sections, and issues listed include a substation fault and equipment contact. It was resolved about an hour later.

The outage was listed as affecting two areas:

• north of McKee Place and west of Young Road; and

• south of Kitchen Hall Road, east of Young Road, north of Chilliwack Central Road and west of McGrath Road.
