A man was stretchered onto an ambulance after he was struck by a vehicle on First Avenue in Mission on Wednesday (April 10).

First responders were called to the intersection of First Avenue and Welton Street at approximately 1:10 p.m. after reports of a pedestrian struck.

Police say the driver initially left the scene but turned himself into the Mission RCMP detachment almost immediately afterwards.

Mission Fire Rescue Service, BC Emergency Health Services and Mission RCMP attended the incident. Traffic on First Avenue was halted while paramedics treated the man.

The man was carried to an ambulance on a stretcher and transported to hospital. Mounties say the man was not seriously injured.

An investigation is ongoing, including a mechanical inspection of the vehicle.

“Mission RCMP thank the witnesses that remained at the scene to help the injured pedestrian and provided valuable details to police,” the detachment said in a statement.
