An elderly man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in Chilliwack on Tuesday morning, RCMP confirmed.

The pedestrian collision happened on Spruce Drive at Eden Drive in Sardis around 10:45 a.m. on March 12. The man was airlifted to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

When crews with the Chilliwack Fire Department arrived on scene, they reported that a man was on the ground being tended to by bystanders.

Following the incident, a portion of Spruce Drive between Vedder Road and Wiltshire Street was closed to traffic for several hours as RCMP investigated.

Chilliwack RCMP frontline officers and the Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Section, with the support of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services, are advancing the investigation to determine if criminality is a factor, Cpl. Carmen Kiener, media spokesperson with Chilliwack RCMP stated in a press release on Wednesday (March 13).

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was co-operating fully with police.

That morning turned out to be a busy one for emergency responders, as at least two other collisions happened within an hour of each other.

Around 9:30 a.m., a commercial truck rolled over on Yale Road at Prest Road causing traffic to be completely blocked.
