Former city councillor Sue Knott has been named BC United candidate for the Chilliwack-Cultus riding.

Currently executive director of the Chilliwack Hospice Society, Knott served 14 years on Chilliwack city council, with a “profound” commitment to community service.

Having navigated a business career spanning four decades, Knott brings a proven track record of leadership to the forefront of BC United’s vision, according to the Feb. 20 release from the BC United party, formerly the BC Liberal party.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to represent Chilliwack-Cultus Lake and to continue serving the community that I deeply care about,” said Knott. “I am committed to working tirelessly to address the issues that matter most to our residents and to build a brighter future for all.”

Serving numerous boards, including the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Society and the Chilliwack Agricultural Commission, she tirelessly offered her expertise to initiatives aimed at enriching the fabric of society. As a past president of the Chilliwack Mount Cheam Rotary Club and an active member of the Soroptimist Club of Chilliwack, Knott exemplifies the essence of leadership and service.

She was promoted to senior manager at BC Telephone Company before her retirement in 2004, and she led Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce through several prosperous years.

“Sue Knott’s extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, and her unwavering dedication to community service, makes her the ideal candidate for Chilliwack-Cultus Lake,” said BC United Leader Kevin Falcon.

Falcon said it’s “exactly the skill set” the party needs.

“Together, we will tackle the affordability crisis, fix our crumbling health-care system, and restore public safety in B.C.,” the leader for BC United pledged.
